Veterinary Pet Insurance launches Annual Pet Cancer Awareness Month

Veterinary Pet Insurance launched Pet Cancer Awareness Month in November 2006 to call attention to the nation's number one killer of dogs and cats. Veterinary Pet Insurance is the nation's oldest and largest pet health insurance company. Since 1982, it has been providing pet owners, insurance cover offering them peace of mind.

Its Pet Insurance plans cover dogs, cats, birds and exotic pets. Optional Vaccination & Routine Care Coverage is available in addition to cover thousands of medical problems and conditions relating to accidents, illnesses and injuries. Medical plans by VPI are available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

With its campaign the company is committed to being the trusted choice of America's pet lovers. It is an advocate of pet health education and is continuing its campaign of education and philanthropy.

In the fight against pet cancer VPI has asked visitors to petinsurance.com to help by purchasing limited-edition Pet Cancer Awareness dog collars and pink magnetic paws. The benefactor of this year's program is the Animal Cancer Foundation and the National Canine Cancer Foundation, respectively to which all the proceeds will go.

Medical claims of more than a million of pets were tracked by VPI to obtain the reliable data on the incidences of cancer and other serious illnesses. Cancer-related claims for canine and feline cancer in 2005 was nearly 20,000. Data reveals that lymphosarcoma (a cancer affecting the lymph node system) is the most common cancers in dogs. Even skin tumors and osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) were causes. Cats too suffer from lympohsarcoma and skin tumors.

VPI felt compelled to educate public about pet cancer, its detection and treatment. Carol McConnell, DVM, director of veterinary relations for VPI said that VPI had simultaneously thought of a way to raise money towards a cure as combined cancer claims were the fourth highest in frequency last year.

Tan-banded with a gold buckle VPI's Pet Cancer Awareness collars and its 'awareness' ribbons, sprinkled with lavender, are symbolic indicators of recognition for all pets that stricken with cancer; one of the leading killer of dogs and cats. It's a special way for both pets and their caregivers to spread the word and demonstrate support by purchasing the collars and the ribbons.

VPI Pet Insurance medical plans cover almost all types of cancers and pet insurance can help pay veterinary costs for chemotherapy, surgery, etc... should their pet develop cancer.
