Clinical Signs The term clinical signs refers to how your pet will look when exhibiting a normal healthy state. The clinical signs include an assessment of bodily function, tone, behavior, eating habits, weight and coat luster. The vet assesses your pet's clinical signs every time you take your pet to their office. They will use the clinical signs to determine if there is a potential problem, injury, or illness that your pet needs to be treated for. There are also clinical signs for every potential illness or injury that your animal could have. By assessing the overall state of the animal, the vet is checking for the clinical signs that point to an illness or sickness. Part of what is studied in veterinarian school is the clinical signs for the illnesses. If the vet suspects an illness, they will code the clinical signs in your animal's record. This is what the insurance will look at to determine whether or not to pay for a certain illness. Proper coding is essential to ensure that your pet receives coverage.
